Honors Residential College at Hume Hall
Overview
The Honors Residential College at Hume Hall is a living learning community built on the former site of Hume Hall, which opened in 1958 and was razed in the Fall of 2000. Designed as a residentially-based academic community, UF's newest facility integrates the housing needs of Honors residents with facilities, staff, and programs in support of the Honors Program.
Program Goals
- Promote involvement with the campus community through residence hall activities, student organizations, and interaction with faculty, staff, and other students.
- Assist incoming honors students in making a smooth transition to the University community.
- Provide additional opportunities for informal out-of-class interactions between honors students and faculty.
- Provide opportunities to participate in activities that enhance the Undergraduate Experience.
- Participate in leadership opportunities.
- Involvement in community service.
- Study abroad.
- Conduct research.
- Complete an internship
Academic Resources
- Student Honors Organization (SHO): The SHO Office is located in the Hume Commons. SHO hosts regular meetings, programs, events, and leadership opportunities for Honors students. Visit SHO on the web for more information.
- Faculty-in-Residence: The Hume Area is home to a faculty-in-residence. This faculty member lives in the halls and serve as academic advisor and mentors to residents. For more information about this program, click here.
- Classroom space: Hume Commons offers a multimedia classroom for Honors classes and group study
- Study space: Hume Commons offers a comfortable study space with wireless access and large tables for group study.
- Research Assistance: Research assistance will be available through a librarian on a walk-in basis to answer questions and offer resources. Look for the librarian's hours posted in the Hume residence area.
- Other programs include study buddies and exam review sessions.
About Hume Hall
The complex includes two residential buildings housing 608 residents, 18 Residential College Advisors (RCA), and 2 graduate hall directors. Hume is an air-conditioned hall in the West Campus and is located near tennis and volleyball courts, a convenience store, and a Boar's Head Sub Shop & Grille. Nearby is the Reitz Union, the Gator Corner Dining Facility, the O'Connell Center, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, and available freshman parking.
A Residential College Advisor (RCA) and 33 students live in a section or “house” within the two residential buildings. There are 18 houses total, and within each are 18 suite-style rooms with baths surrounding a common lounge and snack kitchen, which overlooks the conservation area east of Lake Alice.
