Global Living Learning Community At Yulee Hall
Overview
This unique community strives to educate leaders for a global community through intercultural awareness, faculty-led discussions, and awareness of campus, community, and global resources. Global Community residents are presented with numerous opportunities to explore current world events and international perspectives as they prepare to be part of the greater Gator Nation.
Program Goals
The goal is to develop globally competent learners who:
- Exhibit awareness of one's own cultural values, beliefs, attitudes, biases and stereotypes and the impact of these on others.
- Demonstrate knowledge about world history, current events and global economics and sustainability.
- Acknowledge and respect the existence of different cultural values, beliefs and attitudes.
- Recognize that people are interconnected and globally interdependent.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively in a cross-cultural environment.
- Accept responsibility for active world citizenship.
Academic Resources
- Tutoring Services: Yulee Hall is located near the Broward Teaching Center offers free tutoring in a variety of subject areas: accounting, astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, economics, mathematics, physics, and statistics courses. For more information click here.
- Academic advising: Academic advising will be available through an academic advisor from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The advisor is available on a walk-in basis to answer questions about majors within the CLAS and to offer resources for other general academic advising questions. Look for the advisor's hours posted in the Yulee residence area.
- Sustainability: The Department of Housing and Residence Education works with the Office of Sustainability to establish a Green campus. Sustainability means not using up our resources faster than they are replenished. It means environmental, economic, and social well-being. - Faculty-in-Residence:The Yulee Area is home to two faculty-in-residence. The Faculty-in-Residence Program is a structured program that promotes interaction between students and faculty through out-of-classroom experiences. The Faculty-in-Residence lives in a specially designed apartment within or adjacent to a residence hall so that the faculty member and his/her family can share the residence hall living experience with students. How Do I participate?
During your selection date and time, you will login to the myHousing Portal (located at my.housing.ufl.edu) to select a room. On the left side of the screen, you will select the Room Signup option. Simply indicate Yulee Global Living Learning Community as your choice of Building, and then find an available room. See the room selection info page.
