2012

Welcome to Spring Semester 2012! I trust you had a relaxing holiday period and that you spent some time with your family. This year brings with it exciting news for Housing and Residence Education. In December, the UF Board of Trustees voted to approve our bond package proposal for $31 million. Azfar Mian and I now travel to Tallahassee later this month to attend the State Board of Governors meeting who will have the final approval. With their approval we will move forward with the renovation of the remaining 11 buildings in Corry Village over 2012 through 2015; the renovation of Weaver Hall in the summer of 2012; the renovation of Thomas Hall in the summer of 2013 which includes the installation of a central air and heating system; and the renovation of Buckman Hall in the summer of 2014 which also includes the installation of an air and heating system. We continue to make excellent progress in the renovation of our facilities bringing in new systems and finishes which are all warmly received by the students and parents. We will continue to move forward on our residence hall furniture replacement plan over the next few years to bring in new, contemporary furnishings. Finally, in December, the Furniture Shop took possession of some new, incredible machinery that will allow us to construct cabinets, wardrobes, and the like in a fraction of the amount of time of the old processes and machinery. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to our students.
