Transfers

Swamp Swap will open for Fall on July 11, 2022.

Room Transfers

Sometimes your room just doesn't work out, we totally get it. We offer a couple of options to transfer to a different room at no cost.

Transferring to a Vacant Room

There are times when not all rooms are occupied or when empty rooms become available. To request to be moved into an unoccupied room login to hms.housing.ufl.edu with your GatorLink Credentials and under the "Contract" menu, select "Room Transfer Request." You may select one preference to transfer to. If your preferred room becomes available, you will be notified via email to either accept or delcine the transfer.

Swamp Swap

Swamp Swap is an option to exchange rooms with another on-campus resident.

To swap your room,

  • login to hms.housing.ufl.edu with your GatorLink credentials
  • Under the "Contracts" menu select "Swamp Swap"
  • Enter the GatorLink username of the person you want to swap with and select "Go"
  • Verify the information and click "Submit Swamp Request"

After you submit your request your swap partner will be send an email and will go to the swamp swap page to accept. Once they accept. you will receive an email for you to login and submit the final confirmation.

Random Swamp Swap

You may not know who you want to swap rooms with, and that's okay. To still participate in a Swamp Swap you will login in hms.housing.ufl.edu and navigate to the "Contracts" menu and "Swamp Swap."

  • Once you're there you will toggle "Do you know the person you want to swap with?" to "no."
  • Click on “Advertise My Room”
  • Click on “Swamp Swap Posting” to view the rooms of other students interested in swapping
  • Click on “Request More Information” (this will share your name, email and phone number with the student)
  • You will receive an email when the student accepts your request
  • To view the person’s contact information, return to the Swamp Swap page and click on the icon beside “Share Contact Info.”
Feel free to ask the student questions about their room and be prepared to answer questions about yours. Either student may select "Initiate Swamp" to start the swap process. Once that happens your swap partner will be sent an email to either accept or decline the swap. Once they have accepted, you will receive an email for you to login and submit the final confirmation.

Things to Consider

Please note that while we try our best to accommodate every request that we can it may not be possible. If it is possible, the timeline is typically two months, however, this could take longer in some situations.

Graduate and Family Housing Transfers

The transfer process is intended to assist current student who have a change in circumstances with regards to the following: marital status, dependent children, and disability. When the number of family members living in an apartment increases or an unforeseen medical condition arises, a transfer may be necessary. When a student submits a transfer request for one of these reasons, we do our best to find alternate housing within our Villages that accommodates the change of circumstance.

We also realize that occasionally, a current students may want to transfer to a different village or apartment for other reasons (to be closer to a particular part of campus, to change school zones, to change floors or other personal preferences). We often cannot accommodate these types of transfers due to the high demand for Graduate and Family Housing. However, we will do our best to accommodate as many requests as possible. Please note, you must live in the village for at least six months before requesting a transfer, and that convenience transfers such as these are never guaranteed.

Transfer Costs

There are no upfront costs for transfers. However, once a transfer happens, there is a $75 transfer fee, and residents will be required to pay for rent and electricity costs for both apartments for the number of days it takes to move from one apartment to the other.

Notice of Intent to Vacate

While students who transfer may not be required to fulfill a 60 day rent obligation period for their old apartment, they must still move out of their apartment promptly to avoid improper checkout fees.

Things to Consider

Please note that while we try our best to accommodate every request that we can. However, it may not be possible.

  • It typically takes two months for a transfer, however, this could take longer in some situations
  • To keep rental rates low for all residents, transfers that may have a negative effect on occupancy will not be granted.
  • Documentation may be required for some transfer requests.
  • Students must be in good standing concerning rent, student conduct or other reasons to be transferred to another apartment.
