Graduate Assistant

Off Campus Life

Off Campus Life offers support for students in navigating the transition to off-campus living and creates intentional connections to resources and partners within the Gainesville community. Graduate Assistants in this role are driven by discovery and exploration. They recognize the significance of finding one’s unique place within a community and the power that meaningful connection brings. This Graduate Assistant position will develop transferrable skills that focus on building networks and positive relationships, gaining valuable leadership experience, and enhancing their abilities to critically analyze information that advances not just Off Campus Life, but their future careers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement educational programming on resources available within the surrounding community  
  • Coordinate event logistics for programs that explore Gainesville such as securing locations, on-site event management and programmatic assessments 
  • Present to a variety of audiences, both on campus and in the Gainesville community, on topics such as Discovering Gainesville, Off Campus Housing, City Codes, and Civic Engagement 
  • Educate incoming students and families on the resources available through presentations at Preview (orientation) 
  • Serve as a point of contact for current or prospective students, families, and community members providing information on available resources and resolving questions or concerns  
  • Assist with advising the Off Campus Ambassador’s student organization by guiding outreach efforts and monthly event planning 
  • Create, review, and revise print and digital materials including but not limited to: press releases, event descriptions, Gator Guide to Off Campus Life, Gator Times submissions, annual reports 
  • Gather and evaluate data utilizing the information to generate reports, aid in strategic planning, and facilitate outcome development

            Qualifications

              Required Qualifications

              • Enrolled as a full-time University of Florida graduate student in good standing as defined by the University or specific college at the time of employment  
              • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher  

                      Preferred Qualifications

                      • Experience with event logistics and planning
                      • Effective professional communication including public speaking
                      • Experience with managing social media and event promotion
                      • Experience, or demonstrated interest in, working with student organization advising
                      • Passion for collaboration, building positive relationships, and ability to work in a team environment

                              Additional Information & Benefits

                              • Must be available for 20 hours per week 
                              • A stipend will be provided for a nine-month appointment (Fall and Spring semesters) 
                              • Tuition waiver for 9 credits in the Fall and Spring semesters (fees not included) 
                              • Eligible to enroll in GatorGrad Care health insurance plan
