Moving out

The residence halls close Saturday, May 6 at noon.

Please Note: If you are remaining on campus as part of summer housing, please refer to your UF email for information about your transition to your summer residence hall assignment.

If you are moving out after the Spring 2023 semester and not staying on campus for the summer, you will need to schedule a move-out appointment with your Resident Assistant. Contact your Resident Assistant for how to schedule your move-out appointment.

Move-Out Preparation

As you are preparing for departure, please be sure to complete the following in your room:

  • Remove all personal belongings from your room. All remaining items will be discarded at your expense.
  • Housing-provided furniture must be cleaned and cleared of personal items.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers in designated disposal areas outside of the building and place the emptied containers back in your room. If you have any furniture from the lounge, it must be returned to the lounge, or all residents of the room will be documented by staff and referred to the student conduct process.
  • Turn lights off, ensure windows are closed, blinds are open, and air conditioning is on.
  • Notify your Resident Assistant of any damages to your room during your move-out appointment.

Before returning your keys, be sure to complete these additional items to finalize your move out:

  • Remove any personal items from the community or shared bathroom.
  • Check your mailbox and package locker to retrieve any items addressed to you.
  • Take bicycles and/or scooters.
  • Update your forwarding address in hms.housing.ufl.edu to ensure any mail is redirected back to your summer address.
  • Be sure to update your address information for subscriptions and retailers to ensure delivery to your new address.

After Hours Move Out

If you are leaving after hours, please follow the steps above. When you are ready to leave visit your Area Office and complete an express check-out envelope. Complete the information on the envelope, insert all your keys, and place it into the drop box. You will receive a confirmation email that your move-out has been processed the following business day. For any assistance with your after-hours move-out please contact the Resident Assistant on call.
