Pack like a Pro

Move-in is very exciting, but packing for it can be stressful. Here are a few tips to help you pack efficiently, save space and arrive like a pro.

Review the Packing List

Our packing list is a great place to begin. Jot down anything extra you might need, but avoid overpacking. You'll thank yourself later.

Minimize Boxes

Unpack items from bulk packaging and nest smaller items inside larger ones (like shoes inside laundry baskets) to save space in the car and to make fewer trips to the recycling dumpster.

Keep Clothes on Hangers

Slide trash bags over hanging clothes and tie the bag around the hanger. This keeps items organized and easy to hang right back up.

Use Soft Items as Padding

Towels, bedding and sweatshirts double as great protection for fragile items.

Think Essentials-First

Bring only what you need to start. There’s always time to grab extras later.

If you find yourself in need of something, ask your neighbor. It's a great way to start a conversation and build friendships.

Forgot something? It's OK

You can always have items delivered to your residence hall after you’ve moved in. Just be sure not to ship anything before you check in. Packages that arrive early may not be accepted and could be returned to the sender.

What not to pack

Before you pack your car, double-check that all packed items are permitted. Some belongings aren’t allowed in the halls and are listed in the Housing & Residence Life Community Standards. Reviewing these helps to avoid surprises on move-in day and supports a safe, comfortable living environment.
