Desk Assistant

Housing Operations

The Desk Assistant position is a key component to the on campus living experience. This position fosters relationships between peers, prospective UF students and families, and builds community among residents. Students in this position can expect to enhance their abilities to critically analyze information to proactively anticipate action steps, build lifelong connections or networks, and develop transferrable skills that will take your career to the next level.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for current or prospective residents, families, and community members providing information on campus resources and resolving questions or concerns  
  • Responsible for answering incoming phone calls and emails, assisting walk-in traffic to the residential office 
  • Log and deliver all packages and special mail sent to residents 
  • Assist guests with inquiries regarding different residential facilities, university locations or services 
  • Maintain and update area desk records and materials  
  • Provide temporary residential and mailbox keys for residents 
  • Maintain effective communication with other Housing & Residence Life team members to ensure timely delivery of services. 
  • Create a welcoming environment for all students, families, and visitors through positive interactions and engagement 

        Qualifications

          Required Qualifications

          • This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus 
          • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average 
          • Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week 

          Preferred Qualifications

          • Demonstrated experience with front line customer service 
          • Ability to critically analyze situations and actively problem solve 
          • Ability to work well within a team and build positive relationships 
          • Demonstrated dependability, attention to detail, timeliness, and professionalism 
          • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written communication) 
          • This position may require shift times on evenings, weekends, university breaks, and holidays
