National residence Hall Honorary

The James C. Grimm Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) is a student-run honorary organization here at the University of Florida. We are dedicated to providing recognition to members of the UF community that provide outstanding service to the UF residence life experience. NRHH is based on the values of recognition and service.

Nationally, NRHH was established in 1965 as a service of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH). The University of Florida Chapter of NRHH was established in 1981 and was renamed the James C. Grimm Chapter in 2000 to honor the years of service given by former Director of Housing James C. Grimm.

Members of NRHH are student leaders and housing staff members who are tapped, apply for membership and are voted on by the honorary. This tapping process takes place each semester and is followed by a formal induction ceremony, which is open to all members.

President

The President is responsible for the organization as a whole, including coordinating all programs, the membership process, and appointing Directors. The President serves as the NRHH representative for the University of Florida, as well as on a Regional and National level.

Vice President of Finance

The Vice President of Finance is responsible for handling all financial matters of NRHH. This includes managing the budget and submitting financial statements for NRHH and to Housing & Residence Life.

Vice President of Administration

The Vice President of Administration is responsible for coordinating the constitutional revision process, serving as parliamentarian, and taking minutes at all meetings. This role is also in charge of all technology, website updates, and social media of NRHH.

The President is responsible for marketing, communications and technology functions for the organization. This role creates clear messaging, strong branding and effective communications across campus, regional and national levels.

Vice President of Service

The Vice President of Service is responsible for planning and overseeing service events. This role is also responsible for conducting the Recognizing Outstanding Student Employees (ROSE) and Recognizing of Outstanding Volunteers (ROV) awards processes.

Vice President of Recognition

The Vice President of Recognition is responsible for coordinating the Of The Month (OTM) process, which includes recording submissions and recognizing winners. This role is also responsible for planning and overseeing recognition events.

Awards

The ROSE award program was established in 1995 to recognize the outstanding effort and performance of the various student employees that work for Housing and Residence Life. Every spring semester, one nominee from each category below is chosen to receive this award. Nominations can be submitted by any interested party. The due date for each semester's ROSE awards will be listed on our calendar, typically in March.

The ROSE Award categories are:

Resident Assistant Staff – Any RA is eligible for this award.
Graduate Staff – Any GCC, GA, CA and any other graduate staff members are eligible.
Other Student Staff – Any desk assistant or other student staff not defined in the above categories are eligible.
Graduate and Family Housing Staff – Any student staff member that works in Graduate and Family Housing is eligible.

The criteria that each nomination will be judged on are as follows:

Excellence in job performance
Outstanding service to residents, fellow employees, etc.
Exceeds normal expectations
Willingness to go above and beyond job requirements
Consistent cooperation and helpfulness
Initiative and/or creativity in performing assigned duties (if applicable)

Recognizing Outstanding Student Volunteers (ROV) Award

The ROV award program was established in 2007 to recognize the outstanding effort and performance of the various students who volunteer for Housing and Residence Life. NOTE: If a nominee is employed by the Department of Housing and Residence Life in any way, they should be nominated for the ROSE Award, not the ROV Award.

Every Spring semester, one nominee from each category below is chosen to receive this award. Nominations can be submitted by any interested party. The due date for each semester's ROV awards will be listed on our calendar, typically in March.

The ROV Award categories are:

Single Student Housing– undergraduates, AG members, IRHA members, etc. Note: NRHH Exec are NOT eligible
Graduate and Family Student Housing– Mayor’s Council members, Any volunteer living in GFH, etc.

The criteria that each nomination will be judged on are as follows:

Excellence in Service to Housing and Residence Life
Outstanding Service to Residents and Fellow Volunteers
Exceeds normal volunteering/position expectations
Contributions to their specific residence area
Ability to take on new challenges and take initiative with projects
Overall impact on residents and staff of the UF Housing Community.

Nominations must be submitted to the NRHH Vice President of Recognition. These are some of the most prestigious awards a student volunteer can receive, so please nominate those who you know are deserving of this honor!

OTMs stands for “Of the Month,” and are coordinated through the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). They are a way to tell someone- staff or student- what an outstanding contribution they have made over the past month. OTMs can also be submitted for programs as well, under the categories of community service, diversity, educational, passive, and social programs. They are judged on the campus, regional, and international level, and recognition is provided to the winners and nominators at each level.

After OTMs are submitted on the NRHH OTM website, they are judged by UF NRHH Members, and a campus winner is selected in each category. The best OTMs in each category are then submitted by the Associate Director of Recognition to be judged on the regional level (SAACURH). Regional winners move on to the international level (NACURH), where a winner is then selected in each category.
